The Tuff Memorial Home is certified for Medical Assistance to those residents that qualify. In order to qualify a resident’s funds must fall below three thousand ($3,000) if single, or six thousand ($6,000) if married. Medical Assistance will then help pay for the resident’s stay who fall in those guidelines. Whatever monthly income a resident has is applied to their care. The resident is allowed to keep a personal needs allowance (amount changes every January 1st), which increases with the cost of living. The resident or the financially responsible person must assume responsibility for applying for these funds. The Home is also Medicare certified as of March 1, 1991. Medicare is a federal health insurance program designed to pay some of the cost of health care for person receiving Social Security benefits. In order to qualify, a person must have at least a three-day stay in a hospital, they must come to a nursing home within 30 days after hospitalization, and they must need skilled nursing or rehabilitation services. Medicare will cover up to one hundred (100) days in a nursing facility per qualifying spell of illness. Medicare will pay all the cost for the first 20 days of qualified care. From the 21st to 100th day, the resident must pay a co-payment (amount varies yearly) and Medicare will pay the remainder. CONSULTING SERVICE AND TRANSFER AGREEMENTS
The Tuff Memorial Home has written agreements with three area hospitals (Luverne, Avera McKennan and Sanford), which allows for orderly and prompt transfer when a resident is in need of hospitalization and nursing home care. Laboratory and X-Ray work will also be provided when ordered. The Tuff Memorial Home has written consultative agreements for professional services for a medical director, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dentist, registered dietician, pharmacist consultant, and sign language interpreter.
